MURRAYSBURG NEWS & VIDEO - “There are people here who are abusing their power - that is the biggest problem in Murraysburg,” said Western Cape premier, Hellen Zille.
Zille on Saturday afternoon, 15 September, responded to the community’s grievances over the lack of service delivery and provincial job employment projects not being implemented in the town.
She said the levels of allegations of corruption is shocking and a huge concern.
“You know who the people are that are stealing from the community. Do not put them in power again,” said Zille.
She also said corruption in municipalities needs to be curbed.
Wellington Hugo from the Murraysburg Community Forum said in his statement political interferences are one of the biggest reasons that the town has become destitute.
He said housing is one of the most critical projects in the town. The last RDP houses were built in 2006.
“We haven’t had any services since 2011. Things need to change for the better for the Murraysburg community,” said Hugo.
Zille further stated that it is important for municipal officials to be independent from politics. “We must fulfill our duties as per the constitution and not political affiliation.”
Zille’s office will soon release a report on the memorandum handed to her from the Murraysburg community.
