STEYTLERVILLE NEWS - Haronique Jafta, who turned 33 on 26 April, has always had great dreams to bring car shows to Steytlerville.
This dream recently came true when the Karoo Stance Car Show was hosted at the Steytlerville Sport Grounds, and was a great success.
Jafta, going under the brand name Cheeseboy.com, was behind it all.
Lifelong dream
He said that, growing up in Steytlerville, he always loved and dreamed of beautiful cars, but knew that it would take hard work to earn one himself.
As a teenager he played rugby for the Steytlerville Barbarians Football Club, and occasionally had to find work to sustain himself.
On 2 January 2016, he was involved in an accident on his way back from a job hunt in nearby Montagu.
He lost his left leg just above his knee.
In the years since, his health has been up and down and he was in and out of hospital, but he never lost his love for beautiful-old school cars.
His own cars
He bought his first car, a Chevrolet 1.8 Trailblazer, and later a Toyota 1.6 GL.
He had his cars fine-tuned and upgraded and started to enter car competitions and shows.
His dream took off when entered a car competition in Jansenville in October 2024 and one in Aberdeen in November, where he won first prize in the old-school category.
This strengthened his determination to host the show in Steytlerville.
Great expectations
It was the first time that a car show was held in Steytlerville, with cars coming from Graaff-Reinet, Steytlerville, Jansenville, Willowmore, Kariega and Carnarvon to compete in the categories Best Static, Best Wheel, Best Crew, Best Old School and Best Show.
Thanks go to the Royal Hotel, that made it possible for the competition to take place.
While only 10 cars took part in this first show, expectations are that there will be enough support from sponsors and the community to make it an annual event.
