STEYTLERVILLE NEWS - Jeswaan Boneparte, a Grade 11 learner at Carel du Toit High School in Steytlerville, participated in the final round of the prestigious Proscenium Drama Competition on 15 May.
His participation followed his remarkable performance in the preliminary round that was held in Gqeberha on 22 March, where he was selected as one of only 60 learners nationwide to advance to the finals.
The final round of the competition took place at the iconic Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town, where Boneparte competed against some of the country's top drama students.
The competition consisted of five phases, but unfortunately, he did not make it through to the final stage.
However, his drama teacher, Ethan Vermaak, praised his performance and expressed pride in his achievement, particularly since Boneparte was the only learner from the Sarah Baartman District to qualify for the final round.
"He was fantastic, but the competition was incredibly tough," said Vermaak. "He will compete again next year and, with the experience that he has gained this year, he will do even better."
