GRAAFF -REINET NEWS - After 39 years in education, Mvuleni Mhlana has retired from Nqweba Secondary School, marking the end of a career spanning four decades.
Mhlana began his teaching journey in 1985 at Nqweba Secondary School under the leadership of principal, Reverend Harwood Dixon, who became his mentor.
He worked with several school leaders over the years and Mhlana was privileged to serve under late principal, Mvuleni K Jack and later Clement Madeley, when he stepped in as acting Deputy Principal until a permanent appointee was found.
With the appointment of Zolile R Malotana as principal, Mhlana was appointed Deputy Principal, a role in which he excelled.
In addition to his teaching duties, Mhlana was instrumental in running the bursary wing of the school, in partnership with the African Scholars Fund.
He also received accolades as one of the best history teachers in the province.
Mhlana's leadership was evident during his time as Deputy Principal, when he helped guide the school through many challenges and his relationship with the staff, learners, and community of uMasizakhe remained a cornerstone of his work ethic.
Under the guidance of his new principal, Zanovuyo Mdingi, Mhlana continued to serve with passion and excellence. During difficult times, such as when he was injured at school, Mdingi provided him with unwavering support.
Although Mhlana officially retired on 31 May, he continued working at Nqweba on a contractual basis and will only leave at the end of the year.
As he steps into the next chapter of his life, Mhlana expresses his heartfelt gratitude to the uMasizakhe community. He is deeply thankful for the trust and confidence placed in him and for the opportunity to educate and guide the children of the community.
"I have enjoyed my time at Nqweba Secondary School, and am grateful for the support I received from the principals, parents, teachers and learners who made this journey so meaningful.
I will forever cherish the memories and the impact we made together."
