EASTERN CAPE NEWS - A young couple was robbed at gunpoint while angling in the Kowie River at Century Park in Port Alfred on Sunday 17 January.
A 23-year-old woman and her 27-year-old boyfriend were fishing on the riverbank at 14:30 when five men armed with a gun and knives emerged from nearby bushes demanding that the couple hand over their wallets.
Apart from the undisclosed amount of cash and their bank cards, the men also robbed them of their mobile phones.
They then removed the sound system and speakers from the couple's car that was parked nearby before making off.
The couple is unharmed, but financially hard hit. The value of the stolen goods is estimated at R30 000.
Century Park is one of the last green lungs in the area and a popular fishing site with many fishing boat trips on offer.
Port Alfred Police are investigating the robbery and appealing to anyone who can assist to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant T Tokwe on 046 604 2412 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
