ABERDEEN NEWS — Sometime between July 29 and July 31 this year, a generator was stolen from a farm in the Aberdeen district, valued at R7 000.
Last Thursday a 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the case, and the generator, which had been recovered, was handed back to its owner. The suspect is employed by a construction company from Mossel Bay and was involved in maintenance work on the R 559 Aberdeen / Murraysburg road.
A case of theft was opened after electrical appliances, a porcelain tea set and set of glasses were stolen from a house in Mimosa Street, Lotusville last Wednesday, at about 7pm.
The value of the goods was given as R5 000. A 23-year-old man has been arrested, who lives with his mother in the house. The owner works in Graaff-Reinet. Items to the value of R1 100 were recovered and handed back to the complainant.
A large number of items were stolen from a house in Grey Street, Aberdeen, sometime between September 11 and September 13 while the owners were away.
A security gate was forced open, and electrical appliances, tools, electrical tools, firearms (a.38 special revolver and a .22 rifle), two air guns, gun safe, sword, jewellery, ammunition, groceries, DStv PVR, 51 cm flatscreen TV, DVD surround system, liquor, collectors coins and a laptop were all stolen from the house. This case is still under investigation.
Two men have been arrested in connection with this case for possession of suspected stolen property, when they were found with some of the goods thought to have been from the Grey Street house. The men were arrested after raids on houses in de Jager Street and Merino Street in Lotusville, early on Thursday morning.
The suspects in all of these cases will appear in court on September 21 for legal aid.
A case of theft has been opened after an amount of R1 500 was deposited at Pep Stores in Aberdeen for a money transfer. The person to whom the money was sent did not receive it, but the money was withdrawn at a branch of ABSA bank in Gauteng. The case is still under investigation.
Another case of housebreaking and theft happened sometime during the night of 16th September in Olifant Street, Lotusville.
The complainant went to Da Boyz sports bar, and on his return he noticed that his curtain was hanging outside the window. The window had been broken, and the back door was half open. A DVD player, meat and knives were stolen from the house. No arrest has yet been made, and the case is still under investigation.
