ABERDEEN NEWS - The Aberdeen community demonstrated their dedication to their environment this past Saturday when over 130 adults and children gathered at a local park for one of the biggest cleanup events that this Karoo town has ever seen.
Upon registration everyone received a T-shirt and some black bags and then made their way to the local clinic.
Despite the increasingly unpleasant wind and the looming threat of rain, the community stayed committed to the task at hand and collected truckloads of trash in the vicinity of the clinic. The full black bags were picked up by the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality and transported to the landfill site. After the cleanup, participants reconvened at the park for a boerewors braai and the drawing of prizes for five lucky winners.
The event was sponsored by Remax Above and Beyond's Uitenhage office and Get Go Home Loans in response to Aberdeen's litter problem.
Veronique Janse van Vuuren, one of Remax Above and Beyond's local candidate property practitioners and the main organiser of the event, expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards every person who participated.
"The positive attitude and the way in which everyone worked together was absolutely amazing," she said. She also extended a special thanks to her principals, Les Olivier, David Ross and Craig Seaman for making the event possible, as well as her colleague, Ruth Janse van Rensburg, and Get Go Home Loans representatives, Karen Botha, Yvonne Frazenburg and Johnnika Arries for their assistance. She also thanked Eldrige Ruiters, Edmond Stevens and Edwina Stevens for their behind-the-scenes support and Alex Lombaard and Sterna Thwaites for their warm Karoo hospitality towards the Remax team during their stay at Manakwa Self Catering.
The team emphasised that this event marks the first of many, as they are committed to the overall advancement of Aberdeen.
