GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Camdeboo Hospice Hike and Hobble event, held from June 1 to June 2, saw participants traversing from the Dassiefontein turnoff on the R63 to Nieu-Bethesda.
The event featured various options for participants: a 50km route completed in one or two days, and a 25km one-day route, with participants choosing to walk, run, or bike. Despite 83 entries, some participants were deterred by sudden extreme cold weather.
Susan van der Linde, manager of Graaff-Reinet Hospice, expressed her gratitude to all sponsors, highlighting Pick n Pay as the main sponsor and ATKV for providing goodie bags. She also thanked those who managed water points for participants. "It looks like we raised around R100 000 with this event," van der Linde stated.
The event held special significance for three teachers from Union Preparatory School in Graaff-Reinet. They participated in memory of their late colleague, Stephen Bezuidenhout, who recently lost his battle with cancer, making their journey especially poignant.
With the early morning start at the Dassiefontein turn off, participants were eager to start their journey.
