GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — For many years, the Luthando Training Centre in Parsonage Street has made a valuable contribution to learning in Graaff-Reinet, helping to prepare youngsters and adults for employment.
Courses provided at the centre courses included computer skills, caregiving skills and training, personal skills and Adult Education and Training.
Sadly the officials of this NPO have had to make the difficult decision to close down the Centre due to many reasons, as it was becoming increasingly difficult to achieve the goals set out by the Board and the management staff.
Funding is always a major concern for any NPO. During the operation of Luthando, the main contributor was Stichting Jacaranda from the Netherlands, whose generous support helped keep the organisation afloat through the years. Luthando’s Chairperson Liza Henley expressed her gratitude to Jan and Ada Boogaart and the board of Stichting Jacaranda, as well as to the DG Murray Trust, the National Lottery Board, Protea Helping Hands (Cape Town), AgriSeta and private donors for their generous contributions over the years.
“It is with reluctance and sadness that LTC had to take the step of closing down a once-promising venture,” said Henley, who expressed her wish that learners will find other ways to further their education and skills in Graaff-Reinet.
Any learners who still have outstanding certificates are asked to collect them from the Centre during the final week of January 2017.
