GRAAFF-REIENT NEWS - Every month, officials from the various government organisations in Graaff-Reinet gather for a day to participate in a physical activity of sorts.
The activity varies from month to month, but can be a sporting competition, a walk through town or anything that gets the participating government officials out of the office and active in some manner.
Launched in 2016, the goal of this initiative – known as the Graaff-Reinet Employee Wellness Programme - is to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle through worksite health promotion activities.
Over the past year, this programme has been well-supported by all the governmental departments who regard it as a tremendous opportunity to help their employees see the value of adopting healthier behaviours.
The eight departments who participate regularly is SASSA, the SAPS, the departments of Health, Social Development, Education and Roads and Transport, SANParks and the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality.
On Friday, 2 November, the final event for the year – a potjiekos competition - was held at the Urquhart Caravan Park, with the staff from the Midland Hospital, representing the Department of Health, being crowned as the winners.
The organisers would like to thank sponsors Pick n Pay, Steers, Burger Inn, Spandau Spar, Liberty Life and Old Mutual for their support in this initiative.
