LIFESTYLE NEWS - It's a new year, and a good time to think about ways to bring positive energy into your home. We've rounded up some of the top trends that forecasters and designers are talking about in 2017.
"If you are planning to do some renovating, building or just love to update your home's décor or design, these trends will definitely point you in the right direction," says Debbie Reabow, brand & communications manager of the Rawson Property Group.
Green, green, green
Pantone - the authority on all things colour-related in the world - announced that 'Greenery' is their colour of the year, which means that this lush hue will undoubtedly influence just about anything design, décor and fashion related. Reabow points out that bringing this trend into your home can be easy and affordable, not to mention fun.
"Think about adding green scatter cushions to your lounge; cover a central wall with wallpaper in shades of green (wallpaper is also trending); or place gorgeous pot plants in your lounge area," she explains.
Cork Walls
The sustainable and practical elements of cork walls are bringing it right into 2017. These walls will be great for absorbing or blocking out sound, pinning up inspirational images or quotes and bringing earthy warmth to your home.
Marble
Marble is more of another vintage trend that is making a great comeback. This luxe material will be big in many ways this year. Think about using large statement pieces in your home, like marble tables, countertops and flooring, and event accessories like serving platters and vases. These will definitely add the wow factor you've been looking for.
Texture
This year, there's also a strong focus on materials that add a sense-of-touch-element to décor. Velvets, faux fur, chunky knits, rattan, bamboo, jute and wood are some of the materials that will be popular. These materials can easily be used to update your older headboards or chair covers.
Use chunky knit throws in the living area or even velvet scatter cushions to make your space look luxurious. These are just some of the ways you can bring texture into your home.
Terrariums
While big pot plants have been dominating interior décor trends for a number of years, 2017 will see smaller glass planters - à la terrariums - become trendy.
Terrariums are easy to care for and come in various unique shapes and sizes, making it easy to adapt to the design in any room of the home. It's perfect for those who do not have a garden space and, best of all, you can get creative and keep busy by creating your own terrarium.
