NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS - Three weeks ago two incidences of serious animal cruelty were reported to the Nieu-Bethesda SAPS.
One dog was beaten for chasing goats and died from her injuries, and another dog was allegedly poisoned by a neighbour.
The Nieu-Bethesda Police contacted the SPCA who immediately sent an inspector to assess the situation. The perpetrators of the first incident have been charged, and the second case is pending awaiting the toxicology report.
Animal abuse is rife and the SPCA and SAPS urge people to come forward by reporting any incidences of cruelty and exposing the perpetrators.
Those who commit these acts must be made accountable as this will hopefully curb further shocking acts in the future.
Hilary Chaplin, trainee inspector at the SPCA says, “In co-operation with the SAPS, we are going all out to combat cruelty by investigating acts of animal abuse and bringing the perpetrators to book to prevent future cruelty to our animals.”
