GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Noloxo Witbooi, a 46-year-old staff nurse at the Horseshoe Clinic in Graaff-Reinet, was attacked on her way to work on Friday, January 5.
Witbooi was walking along the paved footpath next to the Middelburg road, between Umasizakhe and town, at about 07:30. She was attacked by a young man with a knife, who took her handbag containing her set of keys for the clinic, and other personal effects including her cellphone.
While trying to defend herself, and fighting for the knife, she was cut on her hand. Fortunately, she sustained no other physical injuries, but it is understood that she was understandably badly traumatised by the experience.
A case of robbery has been opened, and a 22-year-old suspect has been arrested.
Simphiwe Appollis appeared in the Graaff-Reinet magistrates’ court on Tuesday, when the case was remanded until January 16 for further investigation and bail application. The accused will remain in custody until then.
