GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Imibala Gallery at the Drostdy Hotel opened its new exhibition, Life – Under the Great Karoo Sky, on Friday evening.
Art enthusiasts were met with beautiful artwork by the likes of Peter Bonney, Catherine Brennon, Lynnley Watson, Di Ackermann, Duncan Stewart, Annari van der Merwe and Meryl Nesbit. These works included sketches, paintings and sculptures.
Special guests of the evening were freelance journalist Elsabé Pienaar, who presented a poem she wrote about the Karoo, and Hermien de Vos, who screened her project Op Theefontein.
De Vos completed the 50-minute film, which depicts actress Antoinette Pienaar and her work with Oom Johannes Willemse on a farm in Theefontein, with the late television, radio and documentary producer Johan Botha in 2011.

“As Antoinette [Pienaar] always says, like good wine the film doesn’t age,” De Vos told the small crowd.
“I am proud that it can be shown here, among art, because to me it is like art. It’s like a poem.”
Opening speaker and producer Hermien de Vos, artists Hilary Graham and Curt Martheze from Aberdeen, Kim Imrie (Imibala Gallery), speaker Elsabé Pienaar, artists Johanneke Strydom, Bets Henning and Janet Kingwill, and Ros Goodson (Imibala Gallery).
