GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Montego Pet Nutrition sponsored a T20 cricket competition at the Botanics grounds in Graaff-Reinet from 22 to 24 September.
Stallions Cricket Club from Graaff-Reinet played their first game of the 2023 - 2024 season against the Eagles from Ethekwini.
Batting first on Friday 22 September, the Stallions posted a healthy 151 for the loss of five wickets against their opponents. Juandre Davids scored 40 - 5 times boundaries and a glorious six.
The Eagles, thanks to three middle order batsmen contributing 40 plus runs each, reached the required target with four wickets down and eight balls to spare.
Not a great start for the Stallions, but they were determined to rectify the situation in their two fixtures on Saturday 23 September.
A convincing win against a Cape Town Invitational side meant that the Stallions needed a victory against Sterling Old Boys to qualify for the semi-finals.
Sterling Old Boys scored 114/5, which the Stallions surpassed - with bad light making scoring extremely difficult. Stallions scored the winning runs with seven wickets down.
The consecutive victories secured a semi-final spot against Despatch on Sunday morning for the local side, but rain had the final say.
