KAROO NEWS - The Willowmore Police Safer Festive Season Roadblock Initiative has led to the recovery of a substantial amount of dagga as well as the arrest of the driver in whose truck it was found.
On Friday 15 November at 7pm, Lieutenant Colonel Plaatjies Jonas, six members from Willowmore SAPS and five Provincial Traffic officials were manning a roadblock on the N9 from Willowmore. They stopped and searched a truck, and found 23 bags of dagga hidden in the back.
Police Spokesperson, Captain Bradley Rawlinson, said the bags of dagga weighed 572 kilograms, with an estimated value of R200 000.
The 54-year-old suspect was arrested and detained at Willowmore Police Station.
During the operation, the members searched 107 vehicles, 348 people, and issued nine traffic fines to the value of R 9 300.
"The objective of these operations is to check vehicles, drivers and passengers to contribute to a safer festive season," said Rawlinson.
