GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Dr Beyers Naudé Municipality's Community Services department has been bending over backwards to keep towns within its demarcation clean.
Community Services Director Gewnynne Hermanus managed to secure the services of 313 participants from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) who have been assisting in this regard.
The participants under Donovan Smith, supervisor for refuse, and illegal dumping, recently cleaned the illegal dumping site on the corner of East- and Vink Streets in Kroonvale, Graaff-Reinet.
The area was then converted into a small succulent garden.
Ward 4 Councillor Joy Williams expressed her gratitude towards the CWP workers and DFFE participants who have been working tirelessly to clean and beautify her ward. Williams is responsible for the community services portfolio and also spearheaded several successful projects during her tenure as councillor for Ward 4. "Ward 4 never disappoints. There is always a move in my ward – we never relax and under difficult circumstances we still deliver," says Williams. "I have an excellent team – workers from CWP and casuals from DFFE – in community service. They are always willing to support."
