NIEU-BETHESDA – The small village of Nieu-Bethesda is currently booming with many building projects popping up throughout the village.
In some cases, old sheds and dams have been transformed into quaint dwellings, and in other cases, a handful of new houses are being built on empty plots. There is a tangible 'buzz' about the village as teams of builders make their way to work in the dawn and head home along the dusty streets each evening.
The builders engaged in these projects say that they are happy as work provides financial stability for their families. The builders display obvious pride in the buildings that they create. It is heartening to observe that most of the new houses are being built in the Karoo style, so as not to take away from the authenticity of Nieu-Bethesda, which is a major tourist attraction as a result of its Karoo Style architecture.
There are six new houses being built concurrently at the moment - given the diminutive size of the village, this is remarkable.
Conrad Bester, Gregg Price, Andre du Toit, John and Jacquie Ackhurst and Willem Kriel are some of the new home builders – an encouraging addition to the village, as with them come work opportunities for the local populace.
