GRAAFF-REINET NEWS AND VIDEO - Thieves caused a major setback for the Gift of the Givers, who arrived in Graaff-Reinet yesterday to assist the drought-ravaged town in finding water.
The humanity organisation started their first work at Spandau Secondary School yesterday, by drilling a borehole.
This morning (2 October) the team woke to find most of their essential tools stolen.
Ali Sablay, Gift of the Givers' project manager, told the Advertiser shortly after 7am this morning that the tools stolen include rare batteries, drilling tools and drilling spanners, as well as diesel and other essential tools.
“This is a setback for us and the town, as we hoped for the first water at 10am. Now we have to look everywhere in South-Africa for tool replacements, as some of it is not available in South Africa," Sablay added.
No water donations were stolen, as this is stored at a different location.
This is a developing story.
