GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A 35-year-old suspect in a Graaff-Reinet arson case is still at large.
The man is suspected of setting alight the house at "Vrygronde", uMasizakhe, where he lived with his girlfriend.
The incident happened on the evening of 15 November.
According to provincial police spokesperson WO Majola Nkohli, an alleged argument between the suspect and his girlfriend is being investigated as the reason for the arson.
The suspect allegedly left the home after the verbal disagreement, but returned a while later, carrying a bottle of paraffin. He allegedly started pouring the paraffin on the furniture in the dwelling and set it alight.
The victim grabbed her child by the hand and ran out of the house. She later returned to her house and found it had been destroyed by the fire.
When the Advertiser first spoke to the victim on Wednesday 16 November, she was in shock and disbelief and had difficulty talking about the incident. She thanked everyone from the caring community and was grateful that her three-year-old child was safe.
The fire was put out after the shack had been completely destroyed. The Graaff-Reinet SAPS Local Criminal Record Centre's forensic experts and detectives are investigating the incident.
The police search for the suspect is still ongoing.
