GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A 26-year-old man was sentenced to 23 years imprisonment for the rape of his 5-year-old niece.
According to Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, the spokesperson of the Graaff-Reinet Police, Trevor Olifant was sentenced for the crime in Grahamstown High Court on 7 October.
Olifant was accused of taking the child into a residence in Umasizakhe on the evening of 21 February, where he allegedly locked them inside the residence and raped the child.
A case was registered with Graaff-Reinet Police and was handed to Graaff-Reinet family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit for further investigation.
The accused was then arrested on 23 February and made his first court appearance on the same day.
