KAROO NEWS - The 8th Summit Wildlife Game Auction, in association with the Octofin group, took place at the Drostdy Hotel in Graaff-Reinet on Saturday 23 September.
The auction, one of the premier auctions in the Eastern Cape had a turnover of R10-million this year and attracted 250 bidders from across South Africa.
The auction kicked off at 11:00 with four charity lots, which raised a total of R200 000.
Neil Dodds, chairperson of Summit Wildlife, says raising money for local charities is one of their main goals.
The esteemed world-renowned auctioneer, Brandon Leer was responsible for the lots and people from as far as Limpopo and the Western Cape attended the auction. Although most were floor bidders, there was also an online platform for buyers.
Dodds says the highlight of the auction was the high quality of animals on auction, especially Oryx and Springbok, which he says were certainly fantastic.
The top lots were a springbok ram that went for R300 000, a springbok ewe which delivered a record price of R170 000, an oryx cow that sold for R95 000, a buffalo bull that made R340 000 and a Royal wildebeest that sold for R750 000.
