GRAAFF-REINET NEWS AND VIDEO - The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) started its patrols in Graaff-Reinet today (2 April), as part of the battle against Covid-19.
At 3pm, the SANDF, accompanied by local police and municipal law enforcement, drove through Church Street and began patrolling streets on Umasizakhe's side of town, searching for people violating Covid-19 laws.
They warned people on the street to go home.
For many locals, their presence is a sight never seen before, and people gathered in their yards to take photos of the soldiers.
The soldiers entered town last night and set up base at Urquhart Caravan Park. It is unclear at this stage how many soldiers are in Graaff-Reinet. Most of today was spent on strategic planning, after which the patrols began.
