GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The much-anticipated Black Friday came and passed just as quickly as some shoppers went about their shopping in Graaff-Reinet on 27 November.
Church Street was its usual buzz of people, although some shoppers took advantage of the promotions, some as high as 70%.
Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, some stores did exceptionally well. Truworths store manager, Jacques van der Westhuizen, said 80% of shoppers who came into the store-bought sales items.
At American Swiss, shoppers were trickling into the store to mainly buy watches and cellphones, said Kady Swartz. According to her shoppers bought more expensive items this year, helping Swartz reach her sales target for the day.
Customers spent less on branded fashion, Teboho Khampete from Studio88 said, who was expecting high sales volumes for the day.
Shoprite, Spar and Pick n Pay stretched their Black Friday deals over the weekend to avoid congestion.
