ABERDEEN NEWS - Beloved Afrikaans singer Mathys Roets performed in Aberdeen last Monday as a fundraiser for Aalwynhof Home for the Aged.
A large crowd attended the performance, and everyone had ample time to meet and chat with the singer.
Roets sang all his well-known hits, as well as some beautiful songs of Neil Diamond, Koos du Plessis, and Gert Vlok Nel, amongst others. Before long, many in the audience joined in with the singing.
After the performance, he was handed a gift by local farmer's wife Maryke Lategan.
After the show, biltong bites, savoury tarts, ginger beer and tea and coffee were sold in aid of Aalwynhof.
After the show, guests lingered to interact with Roets, a humble and likeable person.
His accommodation was sponsored by the Villeria Guest House. The next morning Roets had tea and snacks at Aalwynhof, where he gave an impromptu show for the residents.
This was much appreciated, and their excitement was tangible.
His talent, resourcefulness in coping with his life in a wheelchair, as well as his inspirational attitude, will be remembered by all who met him.
