GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Years of hard work and perseverance have finally paid off for Simonia Booi (32).
Born and bred in Graaff-Reinet, Booi didn't always have it easy - unfortunately, she had to drop out of Union High School in 2006, Grade 9, because she fell pregnant and had to look after her newborn.
It was during 2008 that Booi decided that she had to do something about her education to build a better future for herself and her child.
In 2008 she enrolled for an office administration National Vocational Certificate L2 - L4 at the Eastcape Midlands TVET College. She completed this course in 2010 - during this time, she was also elected as a campus SRC member in 2009.
From there, Booi was unstoppable and in 2011 she was allowed to do her internship at the Graaff-Reinet campus. In 2013 she registered for Management N4 - N6 Assistant course and within the same year, she was appointed as the Financial Aid Officer at the Graaff-Reinet campus.
In 2015 she completed her N6 certificate and in 2017 formed part of the diploma recipients of EMC, Graaff-Reinet campus.
In 2022 she was promoted to campus administrator at the Graaff-Reinet campus. Motivated by her passion for TVET and desire to further expand her knowledge, she applied and was accepted into the TVET Advanced Diploma at Nelson Mandela University (NMU) and graduated this year - doing all this while being a single mother of four children.
The Eastcape Midlands TVET College says that Booi's story inspires countless others to pursue their dreams, reminding others that with the right education, dedication and opportunities, nothing is beyond your reach.
