KAROO NEWS - As part of their relentless fight to retain the names of Graaff-Reinet, Aberdeen, Nieu-Bethesda and Adendorp, the DA in the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality has developed individual submission forms and petitions for the four towns. In addition, they also launched their online petition last week.
"The individual submissions will be delivered to both the Eastern Cape and the National Geographical Name Change Committees, and the petitions will be presented to the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture in Bhisho and at national level in Parliament," says Graham-Maré, DA MP and Dr Beyers Naudé Constituency Leader.
For a copy of the individual submission form or to sign the petition, contact Graham-Maré or any of the DA councillors.
The petition can also be accessed and signed online: Click here
DA not fundraising
Graham-Maré says they have been advised that some businesses have donated money believing it to be for the DA to oppose the name changes. "Please note that the DA has not embarked on any fundraising in respect of this campaign and anyone who has purported to be acting on behalf of the DA in these circumstances is doing so unlawfully," she stated.
"While the DA regularly has fundraising activities, only members of the party who have completed the fundraising course and have a certificate and fundraising number are entitled to raise funds or donations on behalf of the party."
Graham-Maré advised those in doubt to contact any of the DA councillors or public representatives before making donations.
