CRADOCK NEWS - Seven members of the Public order Police (Pops) unit in Cradock are facing charges of murder after they were arrested earlier this month.
Three officers were arrested on Monday 8 January and the remaining four a week later.
This follows after a body was found at their headquarters at the Masonic building in JA Calata Street.
According to Phaladi Shuping, a spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid), the members face charges of attempted murder, murder, kidnapping and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
“The police officers allegedly hunted down the deceased after accusing him of robbing one of the officers, and took him to the Pops building where they allegedly assaulted him,” Shuping said.
All seven the suspects will appear in the Cradock Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Friday 19 January, for their formal bail application.
