ABERDEEN NEWS - A 25-year-old man has become the second member of an Aberdeen household to test positive for Covid-19.
This is the first known case in the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality where the virus has been transmitted to a family member.
His sister, who works at the Masekhane Clinic in Lotusville, was diagnosed with the virus two weeks ago after a routine test, and her family were tested the following day. They received the results last Friday (15 May), and according to a family member, the young man who tested positive was given a letter by the local hospital doctor and told that he would be taken to the isolation unit at Midland Hospital in Graaff-Reinet on Monday. Like his sister, he has shown no symptoms.
It is now six days since he was told that he has the virus, and he has been in self-isolation at home all week as no transport has arrived to collect him.
The family were also told last Friday that they would all be retested, and that was done this morning (Thursday). Other contacts are expected to be tested tomorrow.
This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in Aberdeen to five, with all except for the first patient being asymptomatic.
