Update
ABERDEEN NEWS — Last Thursday afternoon Busisiwe Saba, animal health technician from the Department of Agriculture in Graaff-Reinet, visited Aberdeen armed with a plentiful supply of vaccine to inoculate local dogs and cats against rabies.
There was an excellent response from the community, who heeded the warning given about the possible danger of rabies.
According to the register complied on the day, a total of 140 dogs and 42 received the vaccine. Most of these were administered that afternoon by Saba, but some owners chose to take the vaccine home to do it themselves.
Many farmers also collected supplies of the vaccine to administer to the cats and dogs on their properties - Saba confirmed that close to 800 animals in all should have received the immunisation.
It has been confirmed that a second case of rabies has been identified, on the farm Mountain View, close to Eureka where the initial case was reported.
