GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - One of the requirements for the Springbok Scout Top Award is to hold a 40-hour community service project.
On 3 April, assisted by the members of his patrol, Graaff-Reinet Scout Troop Leader Cameron Muir headed out to Bothashoop in the Camdeboo, together with six underprivileged boys from Vuyani Safe Haven.
With much excitement they spent their time camping, walking in the veld, cooking on an open fire and enjoying the outdoors.
“Thanks to Mr and Mrs Merifield, we took part in various farming activities such as milking cows, making butter, making ice-cream, collecting free range chicken eggs and catching and herding sheep,” said Cameron. “For some of us a new experience altogether.”
As this would not have been possible without the help, sponsorship and donations from various people and businesses in the Graaff-Reinet community, Cameron would like to extend a word of thanks to the Merifields, Pick n Pay, Kamdeboo Supermeat, Electro-Cool, Sue du Toit and Sandy Fischer for their generous contribution.
Thanks are also extended to Vuyani Safe Haven for entrusting the troop with their boys.
“It was a most successful few days and enjoyed by all,” concluded Cameron.
