GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The road running from the circle near the Asherville Day Hospital towards Narsing Street is a nightmare after heavy rains. But a group of local schoolboys have come to the rescue of exasperated motorists.
During heavy rains, water streams gushed from the sloped veld towards the road. It took with it large quantities of mud.
The mud is dumped by the surging water onto the busy road. Later, the sun hardens the mud, partially covering the road.
The road is narrow with overgrown verges and numerous potholes. The added challenge of navigating the hazardous, uneven mud deposits is an additional danger to motorists.
However, a group of local schoolboys have come to the community's rescue. For days, armed with their own pickaxes and spades, they have toiled on the road, removing the dense, hard deposits.
The boys say that they are sponsored by a local resident to clear the road.
That their work is much appreciated by the community is evident.
