GRAAFF-REINET NEWS – As many of our readers may have noticed, local grocery stores have started urging the community to go plastic bag free with Spar now offering brown paper bags and Pick n Pay urging shoppers to use reusable shopping bags and the like.
However, a lot of people use plastic bags to line small waste bins, so what do you do when you have no more plastic shopping bags lying around?
The long winded answer to this question delves into reducing your day to day waste altogether, bulk food shopping, composting, sorting, recycling etc, making a kitchen bin essentially obsolete. Getting to this stage is a journey in itself, so in the meantime, this newspaper bag is a simple, sustainable alternative to using a plastic bag liner.
Most Graaff-Reinetters should have old copies of the Advertiser lying around, so why not put them to good use?
If you want to swap your plastic bag bin-liners for paper bin-liners, here's how to make them out of newspaper.
Enjoy, and goodbye to plastic bags!
