GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The world has never seen anything like the death and devastation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Graaff-Reinet community, in particular, has felt the heavy impact of the pandemic on several levels.
On top of the deaths caused by the pandemic and the sadness of hospital patients not being able to receive visitors, there have also been numerous other tragedies and losses not related to Covid-19 that the Graaff-Reinet community has had to endure.
Those families who have lost loved ones are suffering and they need to know they are being supported in their grief.
Union Preparatory School, therefore, invites the community of Graaff-Reinet to participate in a Remembrance Installation as it is its wish to honour the lives lost in Graaff-Reinet during the ongoing pandemic.
The project will consist of a hanging ribbon installation outside the school.
Residents are invited to remember a loved one or show support by tying a ribbon with the name of the loved one on the palisade fence outside the school on Friday 20 August between 12:45 and 14:00.
The ribbons will remain in place for the next ten days until 30 August and will serve as an act of remembrance and a sign of hope.
Those who cannot take part on Friday are welcome to tie their ribbons at any time during the following ten days. Ribbons can either be in memory of a loved one or as a sign of hope. It is open to all. It is not restricted to losses as a result of Covid-19.
Learners at Union will be supplied with ribbons, but residents must bring their own. The ribbons can be any colour.
Union urges participants to observe social distancing when tying ribbons.
