NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — The state of the piece of road between de Toren and Sam's Drift has been of concern to locals and tourists alike for many years.
As was reported last week, GS Civils have resumed with work on the road and in the space of a week, huge improvements have been made.
This followed a petition signed by townspeople as well as consistent follow-up work by Counsellor Linda Botha.
Obviously having roadworkers and heavy machinery in the village will change some aspects of Nieu-Bethesda for the time that they will be working here.
GS civils has been considerate in wetting the roads to minimise dust and the large trucks and graders drive slowly through the village on their way out to sites in the morning.
While some villagers expressed concern about rumours that:
a. the 4km road between de Toren and Sam's Drift is in the process of being tarred,
b. the village roads themselves will be tarred,
c. GS civils will be working in the village for the next three years - none of these statements are true.
The 4km stretch of road between de Toren and Sam's drift is simply in the process of being reworked into a good quality gravel road. D. GS civils has a three-year contract to work on the district roads in the extended Camdeboo area over the next three years.
The road through the village is NOT being tarred.
