GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - "The offering on this year's Summit Auction is truly the best ever".
These were the words of chairman Neil Dodds, referring to the Summit Wildlife Auction scheduled for 11:00 on Saturday, 29 September, at the Botanics Sports Ground.
There are buffalo cows with genetics from the jaw-dropping combination of sires, Grootbaas, Inala and Derdemag, and Tina de Jager's sable bull "Prime Time", the horn length of which has just been confirmed at a massive 50 inches.
Summit is well known for world class springbuck and this year is no exception with progeny on offer from no less than four springbuck rams with horn lengths of over 18 inches.
Progeny from Neil Rex's 67 inch kudu bull, Fitzroy, will be available, as well as gemsbuck cows certified pregnant to Sheik, the 46 inch gemsbuck bull of Hennie Barnard.
Dodds drew attention to Summit's commitment to raising money for charities. Two charities have been earmarked as beneficiaries this year: the Whitlock's Care Centre in Jansenville; and the Klipplaat Remedial Reading Project.
The South African Mohair Industry has donated an Angora ram and two ewes with their kids to be auctioned, as well as a mohair blanket and other mohair products. The goats will be on display at the auction venue, as will a range of mohair products.
An unprecedented number of people will be descending on Graaff-Reinet for the weekend, drawn by the auction and associated golf day, as well as the Karoo-lus Festival.
"What makes Summit different from many other auctions is the wealth of activities in and around Graaff-Reinet for family members, making this one of South Africa's premier destination auctions", said Dodds.
