JANSENVILLE NEWS - Protesters have again taken to the streets of Jansenville, burning tyres and blocking the main R75 through the town.
The protesters are not letting any vehicles through the town, and trucks heading towards Graaff-Reinet are forced to use the gravel road to Aberdeen through Klipplaat, or turn around.
Two weeks ago, Jansenville witnessed mass burnings throughout the town and townships, in protest against an Aberdeen Covid-19 patient being quarantined in the SAWAS hospital.
Sources claim that the current protest action is because another patient who has tested positive for Covid-19 has been admitted to the hospital, from Graaff-Reinet, but this has not yet been verified.
The protest started at about 6pm, and at 8pm showed no sign of abating. According to a witness at the scene, it is more violent than the protest two weeks ago.
“They are burning tyres, tipping over bins, and more than 150 people are now are marching to the hospital,” he said.
This is a developing story.
