MIDDELBURG NEWS - A prayer meeting was held on Sunday 10 January at 15:00 at the gates of SANparks on the Middelburg road to ask for help in these unprecedented times faced by South Africans and residents of Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality.
According to Andrew Hermaans, a member of the Graaff-Reinet Rate Payers Association, a group of spiritual leaders and members from various churches, took it upon themselves to come together in prayer for various government institutions and to also combat the many social ills in the community as well as unemployment, which is now worse than ever due to the impact of the virus.
Hermaan’s said the group started the Sunday prayer sessions a month ago - first at the Midlands Hospital, then the R61 and N9 intersection as well as the N9 leading into Graaff-Reinet.
Hannah Makoba who led Sunday’s prayer meeting said the latest session was aimed at spiritually strengthening the entrance to Graaff-Reinet. "We pray for all the road users on the N9 headed to their various destinations."
A memorial cross for Covid-19 victims were erected next to the road opposite the SANparks gate.
