GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Simultaneous prayer services were held at nearly all towns in the Dr. Beyers Naude Local Municipality on Sunday 24 March, thanks to an initiative of the Mayor's office and Cornerstone Truth Ministries.
The Graaff-Reinet service was held at the Alex Laing Hall in Kroonvale and was very well attended despite the inclement weather.
A combined worship team under the leadership of worship leader Sr Jackie Arries opened the service.
Pastors and ministers from various churches in the different communities of Graaff-Reinet united to pray for an end to the drought, and other critical issues facing the area, and all sectors of the community were represented.
Problems highlighted for special prayers included farmers and the end to the drought; the municipality and its officials; the youth and associated problems including teenage pregnancies; suicides and sudden deaths; families; church and community leaders; crime and substance abuse; and illnesses such as cancer, HIV/Aids and tuberculosis.
"God laid it on my heart to unite all races of Graaff-Reinet to pray under one roof" said organiser, Pastor-elect Mary Reed. "We have to repent and submit our supplications before Him. We took hands and united in prayer. God's Spirit was tangible in Alex Laing Hall"
The Mayor, Deon de Vos, attended the service in Steytlerville, and all towns except Aberdeen and Jansenville participated in the event.
