GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - During the period from 8 January to 14 January, Graaff-Reinet SAPS made a total of 29 arrests.
The vast majority of these were for violent crimes, with 18 being for assault (of which 14 were assault GBH).
In property-related crimes, there were five arrests for robbery, three for theft and one for shoplifting.
One suspect was arrested for dealing in Mandrax, and one for possession of drugs (unspecified).
A staggering 91 people were also arrested for being drunk and disorderly.
Two convictions were secured in the Graaff-Reinet magistrates’ court.
For theft, the accused was sentenced to a fine of R2 000 or three months’ imprisonment, suspended for three years.
For attempted theft, another was given a fine of R500, or three months’ imprisonment.
The following goods were confiscated during the week:
- A Vodacom cell phone and Vodacom sim cards
- A flat screen television
- Dagga
- Mandrax
- Numerous plastic bags containing meat
- A navy blue camper chair
- A set of keys for a Ford Bantam.
