Update
GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - An official statement has now been issued by the media centre of the South African Police Service, Eastern Cape.
This confirms the identity of the body found in a water furrow in Stockenstroom Street on New Year’s Day as that of 47-year-old Frieda Rogers.
According to information at police’s disposal, and her colleagues, Rogers worked night shift on New Year’s Eve at Huis van de Graaff, where she was employed as a nurse.
The inquest docket opened at the time has now been changed to a murder docket following the results of the post mortem, which was held on Wednesday, January 3. The results, released on Thursday, revealed that the cause of death is drowning.
However, it also suggested that she sustained injuries to the head, which prompted the police to widen the scope of investigation.
Police are following up on certain leads but no information can be divulged at this stage as the investigation is at a sensitive stage. The community is urged to be patient and allow the police investigation to continue without any interference or unnecessary speculation.
Graaff-Reinet Cluster Commander Brigadier Rudolph Adolph would like to assure the community that the police will leave no stone unturned in the investigation.
“SAPS detectives will work around the clock and follow all leads to bring the suspect or suspects to book. Community members are urged to share any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects involved in the murder of Mrs Rogers with the police” said Brigadier Adolph.
Information can be shared with W/O Wybrand Marais on 049 807 6600 or at any police station, or SAPS Crime Stop 08600 10 111 or Crime Line 32211.
