ABERDEEN NEWS - There is no confirmed case of Covid-19 in Aberdeen at this point.
Great panic was caused last night and this morning (26 March) after a member of the municipality’s Joint Operation Committee (JOC) posted his notes on the meeting on several social media groups, including that there had been one confirmed case in Aberdeen.
The Advertiser has confirmed that one Aberdeen resident has been tested for the virus, after being in contact recently with a confirmed case.
According to health professionals, in this area results take at least 48 to 72 hours, and this patient’s results are not yet available. He has been sent home for strict self- isolation to await the results.
Mayor Deon de Vos commented “We need to be very careful, as the President emphasized that if one is found reporting inaccurate news, that person will suffer consequences.”
He asked members of JOC to act responsibly with information disclosed in meetings. “We must not contribute to unnecessary panic,” he added.
The public is advised to call the coronavirus hotline on 0800 029 999 with any suspected cases of corona, or to report or obtain information relevant to the pandemic.
