GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A newly adopted approach towards policing has affected notable increases in the identification and arrest of suspects and wanted persons within the Graaff-Reinet policing precinct in recent times.
Police Spokesperson, W/O Gerrie van Rooyen reports that the concept referred to as the Operational Command Centre (OCC) has been activated by the Cluster Commander, Brigadier Adolph as from August 1, 2017.
W/O van Rooyen explained that the approach is based on the premise of integrating operational processes, resources and intelligence across all operational environments of SAPS at all levels in the OCC in order to address an identified threat in a result driven and holistic manner.
The concept seeks to identify and arrest suspects immediately after a specific crime is reported.
Since its establishment the OCC has affected the following number of arrests:
Possession of Tik (7);Possession of Mandrax (13); Possession of Dagga (21); Housebreaking and Theft (8); Possession of Stolen Property (5); Theft of Motor Vehicle (1); Business Robbery (2).
During the night of September 19 local police arrested three suspects for possession of dagga after a high speed chase ended 10 Kilometers before Murraysburg.
A vehicle was confiscated and the suspects appeared in the Murraysburg Magistrates court on 20 September.
On the same Day two suspects were arrested in Graaff-Reinet for the possession of Mandrax, Tik and suspected stolen goods.
Mzikatibe Kakaleni (25) and Lubabalo Buys (25) appeared in the Graaff-Reinet Magistrates court on September 20 for the mentioned crimes and the case was postponed for further investigation.
Also on September 19 a suspect was arrested for the in possession of car breaking implements while another was arrested in Plasket Street for the possession of suspected stolen property.
W/O van Rooyen emphasized the police’s commitment to eliminate crime and criminality within the local communities and urged residents to report any information to the police for investigation.
