GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Jean-Heinrich Pieterse from Aberdeen has been appointed as field officer at Graaff-Reinet SPCA.
Pieterse recently completed a course in Johannesburg and is now a qualified field officer.
He started working for the SPCA in July 2016 as a general worker, cleaning kennels, but his passion for animals, eagerness to learn and friendly manner, saw him transferred to reception after two months. At the beginning of last year he became a trainee field officer, and gained much practical experience.
His dedication led to him attending a week-long course in Johannesburg in April this year, where he covered assorted topics including working with domestic and farm animals, wildlife, humane slaughtering, and education.
A quiet person, Pieterse has always been an animal-lover, and enjoys working with animals and their owners. He chose to work for the SPCA because his main concern is to prevent cruelty to animals, and felt that in this field, he could make a difference.
He is very grateful to the Graaff-Reinet SPCA members and committee members who put their trust in him, and is looking forward to working with the community to improve animal welfare.
