GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The two men involved in a shooting with members of Smhart Security early on Monday morning, 22 February, will again appear in court on 15 April.
The men are charged with attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, housebreaking and theft after a shooting when Smhart Security responded to an alarm activation at a business in Murray Street at about 05:00.
The accused, aged 22 and 29, appeared in the magistrate's court in Graaff-Reinet on 3 March, where Vusumzi Gunguluza was granted bail of R100. Jason Erasmus remains in custody.
Smhart Security was disappointed that Gunguluza made bail, since the suspects were found in possession of a stolen firearm, ammunition and stolen goods. In addition to that, a firearm was used with the intent to kill.
On the day of the shooting, one of the men fired shots at the Smhart Security guards as he attempted to flee, but was apprehended and the firearm was recovered.
Further investigation by the Graaff-Reinet detectives and members of the local criminal record centre, led to the arrest of a second suspect who was found in possession of goods stolen from the business.
The station commander of Graaff-Reinet SAPS, Colonel Andrè Arends, applauded the police and Smhart Security for the arrests.
