GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - As part of activities to urge people to use water sparingly, the Dr Beyers Naudé Municipality is embarking on roadshows to increase awareness concerning water conservation.
The municipality - in partnership with the Department of Water and Sanitation, SANParks and the Department of Health - will visit the primary schools in the region, accompanied by Sponsie - their mascot.
The programme themed 'Access to Safe Water by 2030 - Possible Through Nature', will coincide with National Water Week, starting on 19 March and ending on 29 March.
The main aim of this awareness-raising campaign is to educate primary school learners about the importance of saving water, vandalism, hygiene, the seriousness of water scarcity and also to encourage them to take care of the environment.
