KAROO NEWS - The Sundays River Valley Municipality is in mourning following the death of three of its employees within a couple of days.
The municipality shared the sad news that one of their longest-serving employees, Chief Traffic Officer Lourens Snyman, died on 7 November due to Covid-19 related illnesses.
Andrew Petrus, a superintendent in motor vehicle registration and licencing, passed away on 8 November, also due to Covid-19 complications.
The municipality announced on 9 November that a third municipal employee, Clifford Smith, also passed away.
It is not yet clear what the circumstances surrounding his death were. Smith was a process controller in the Water Purification Services Unit.
"We send our heartfelt condolences to [their] family and close friends," the municipality said in a statement.
Following the deaths of Snyman and Petrus, the traffic office in Kirkwood was closed as more employees were testing positive for Covid-19.
The municipality said it would communicate dates when the office will be operational again.
