KIRKWOOD NEWS - The Traffic Office in Kirkwood was closed today (9 November) after two employees died due to Covid-19 complications over the weekend.
According to a statement by the Sundays River Valley Municipality, more employees are testing positive for the virus.
The municipality shared the sad news that one of their longest-serving employees, Chief Traffic Officer Lourens Snyman, died on 7 November due to Covid-19 related illnesses. Andrew Petrus, a superintendent in motor vehicle registration and licencing, passed away on 8 November, also due to Covid-19 complications.
The municipality announced today (9 November), that a third municipal employee, Clifford Smith, has also passed away. It is not yet clear what the circumstances surrounding his death were. Smith was a process controller in the Water Purification Services Unit.
The municipality shared their condolences with all the families for their loss.
Dates when the traffic unit will be operational again will be communicated in due course, according to the municipality.
