GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Earlier this month, a post on the Graaff-Reinet Magazine's Facebook page about a group of municipal street cleaners elicited a huge positive response.
The photograph captured a trio of workers in a near-deserted Church Street at about 05:00, brooms in hand. Ralton Bantom, Ashley Jansen and Andries Jaftha were happy to pose for the photo, taken by a local resident on his way to work.
According to the original post, these men are part of a team that clean and sweep the streets and pavements every morning, in good weather or bad, obviously taking great pride in their work.
The post received over 600 comments, overwhelmingly positive. Many people took the trouble to thank the workers, and the municipality for providing this early-morning service.
Local folk expressed their pride that Graaff-Reinet has workers of this calibre, who work cheerfully with conscientious attention to detail. There were many requests from those further afield to please send those workers to other areas where poor attitudes, lack of work ethic and dirty streets prevail!
Many Graaff-Reinet residents, and those who had visited the town, also commented that Graaff-Reinet is always clean. In these times when there is much criticism of the municipality, it is good to see so many positive commendations.
As well as all the comments, the post received over 5 500 likes, and was shared over 3 500 times.
