GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A woman died and three paramedics were injured when an ambulance was involved in an accident on the R75 near Wolwefontein.
A mother and her sick 7-week-old baby were being transported from Graaff-Reinet to Port Elizabeth.
About 45km past Jansenville, the driver, paramedic Jacob Booysen, lost control of the vehicle and the ambulance overturned.
The baby’s mother, 31-year-old Michelle May, received a serious head wound in the accident, and was treated on the scene before being taken to Port Elizabeth via Kirkwood in another vehicle.
Sadly, as they reached Kirkwood, May passed away from her injuries. Her baby was not harmed in the accident.
The three paramedics were taken to the emergency room at Netcare Cuyler Hospital in Uitenhage.
According to a spokesperson for the hospital, Booysen was treated and discharged after a few hours. Mxolisi de Vos and FJ MacPhearson, who had been riding in the back of the ambulance, were admitted for observation.
One man was released on Monday, but the other remains in the hospital for continued observation.
